We need a meeting..

Hi guys,

I have just replied to all those who submitted for the photography exhibition and told them we will hopefully have a definite list by this Friday.. I'd appreciate i if you could all have a look at the emails on the googlemail and think about what ones you like and the ones you dont.. theres about 15 submissions.

Im away from tomorrow until thursday afternoon but if you could all do that by then, we could maybe hook up on thursday evening to decide the plans. Rather selfishly I have told two of my friends that they can exhibit, but their work is very good. One has emailed to the googlemail and one emailed my personal email - i'll forward that now so you can have a look.

With regard to the Lonely Punks exh. that happened this weekend, it wasn't a great success. We had loads of fun on the friday and the sex burgers sold out with ease, but no one came down on saturday and only a few cam down on sunday. I think this was down to lack of publicity and people being away, but we really need to make sure this doesn't happen again. I want to sign off with some popular exhibitions.

Please get back to me soon about this because it has to be done soon. Also, should we create a new flyer for it or just alter the original one?

Thanks y'all! Graeme. x

Photography Exhibition

Hi guys,

For those of you who haven't checked the email in the last few days, we've had a few applications for the photography exhibition. I would expect a few more applications to come in before the deadline so if you have friends who want to exhibit then get on to them quickly about applying. We need a definate list by next friday!

Also, with regard to next w/end's lonely punks exhibition, i think Alec etc. are gonna come down during the week to check out the space for setting up so that may be a good time to meet up and sort out any details between us. We also need to sort out money for the last exhibition - mainly to jess and tasha. Flyers need to be distributed for friday, but Alec's design needs a myspace and house address to be added, if anyone knows how to do that..?

Also, im going to spend a day painting the basement and tidying it up before friday so if anyone is up for helping me then let me know.

Thanks. Graeme.

Alternative write-up

Nico, I had a little edit of your write-up to make it a bit snappier. let me know what you think..

Next month at hydeOut we will be holding an open photography exhibition titled, ‘beyond the boundaries,’ displaying the work of a selection of artists and photographers. It will be a great opportunity for up-and-coming artists to exhibit and potentially sell their work, as well as to meet people and to have a laugh!

How to get involved:

Send two or three images of your work (small jpegs will suffice) along with a small description of your practice and how you and/or your photos relate to the theme. We would like anywhere between two and fifteen images to exhibit for each artist.

The exhibition will be held on the 6th, 7th and 8th of June. Please send us your submissions by May 23 2008 to: hydeoutgallery@googlemail.com Don't miss out!!

For more information about the exhibition or the hydeOut gallery (including details of past exhibitions) visit our website at: www.myspace.com/hydeoutgallery or email us at the above address. We look forward to hearing from you...

Flyer Photo exg

this is a potential format for flyer:

P.S. the potential flyer images are at these ones at the top:

Hi guys, i'm having difficulty coming up with a title for the photo exhibition. Ive drafted a email for requesting submissions but obviously need to decide on title/theme..what do you think?.. wants to be quite open but also not too vague, maybe topical, open to interpretation, not too cliched.. heres some ideas..

Changing Places
Transition/Change
Transformation

Keep Calm and Carry On

Outside the Box
Off the edge
Beyond the Barriers
Pushed to the edge

Destination
Journey

Errr... that was just a bit of a brainstorm so please give me some feedback and suggestions/elaborations asap!!

Heres the draft letter:

"[HydeOut- an underground arts space in Hyde Park

Request for submissions

Next month we will be holding an open photography exhibition titled ‘xxxxxxxxxxx’, in which we would like to exhibit the work of a selection of artists and photographers. We would like anyone interested to send us two or three images of your work (small jpegs will suffice) along with a small description of your practice and how you and/or your photos relate to the theme. We would like anywhere between two and fifteen images to exhibit from each artist.

We would like this to be an opportunity for up and coming artists to exhibit and potentially sell their work, as well as to meet people and to have a laugh.

Visit our website for more info about HydeOut including details of past exhibitions at www.myspace.com/hydeoutgallery

So come get involved!.. We look forward to hearing from you…"

NEXT MEETING FOR EXHIBITION

Hi guys,

We have Maria and Richard's exhibition coming up a week on friday so we desperately need to meet up and discuss what we need for it. They have finished the flyers and have sent them to us at our email address. They'll need to be printed and distributed next week. Also, we'll need e-flyers and messages to be sent out on the myspace, facebook and mailing list so we'll need to delegate who does what etc.

Also, i think we should get cracking on organising a photography exhibition asap. We've had LOADS of interest in the prospect of having one, so its important we dont leave it too late. I'd like to maybe get some flyers done by next friday to have at the exhibition to generate interest... Also, Alec has asked if Ben and the Lonely Punks could return for another exhibition as they have loads of new work. I think this would be an ideal filler between M and R's one and the possible photography one, as they managed to get it all sorted without much help. any ideas??

Obviously we're all really busy at the moment so whatever time you can give would be great. I'm going to be really busy on the weekend of the exhibition, but Richard and Maria said they would invigilate. If anyone could give a few hours that would be super duper!

A meeting for this week some time would be ideal - when is best for everyone? Any evening would be fine for me. Can you get back to me either on here or, ideally, via text message. We really need to get this sorted and get things going again.

Cheers! Graeme. x

First meeting post-MAKE/Shift

First of all, Nico it was an absolute pleasure! The exhibition couldn't have gone better in my opinion, despite a quiet Saturday. Friday was obviously the highlight but Sunday was really encouraging and the people i spoke to all sounded both inspired and eager to come back.

I think we've learned a lot from our experiences this w/end and hopefully these will impact on Kirstie's exhibition and Alec and Ben's one at the end of the month. I get the impression from Kirstie that she is particularly nervous about it - not only because her project is so personal to her, but also because she has less to exhibit than Nico and Nick did. With that in mind i think we should make a big effort in helping her along with it, though i know Tash and Jess are much more involved in this one so that is a major bonus.

I'm thinking we should meet this Thursday (the 7th) to discuss any unresolved issues such as expenses etc. and also the details of Kirstie's exhibition.

Cheers! p.s. God Hates Art! x

Well done guys!!

just want to say thanks to everyone- as artist and as fellow organiser- a definite success i feel- pretty well organised, well attended, we all put in lots of work and it was worth it we pulled it off!! give yourselves a slap on the back. looking forward to the next exhibition! tasha and jess when do you want the space to be ready to start working in again? we were planning to have it all dismantled by the end of this week.. and what colour do u want it painted? white i presume?

Preparations for MAKE/Shift

Good evening kids, hope all is well!

We really need to meet up this week and have a good chat about jobs, times, costs etc etc.
I think wednesday would be good, at around 6pm at the basement? Nico will hopefully be nearing the end of his project so we will have a good idea where he is at. Because there is a lot going on in this exhibition, we need to know what exactly each of us will need to do on the day/night. After all this effort, we can't afford to mess anything up..

get back to me asap on here or my phone if you can't make it so we can try to organise a different time..

Thanks, x

poster/flyer/meeting

thanks nico for posting your oringal design on here, as hopefully it will help tasha and jess with the facebook/myspace message and the booklet design that we are planning to give out at your exhibition.

Callum was kind enough in printing us off a copy of an A5 and A4 copy of the design so we can organise circulating some flyers and posters asap. they're looking great!

i may be busy up until 6.30pm on thursday, but i cant remember the time we were supposed to meet.. if thats a bad time for everyone else then let me know and i'll try to sort something out..

much love, xxxxxxxxxx

blurb

Make/Shift
[or just make do]
An exploration into the building blocks of life.

Fri 1st Feb- Sat 3rd Feb

For the first event at hydeout, Nico Smith and Nick Davies have created a haphazard environment, struggling for stability and crying over spilt bricks.

A multimedia installation of constructions, compositions and catastrophes, made with everything from microchips to mud.

Private View Friday 6-9pm
Open all day Saturday and Sunday

Dates etc

Totally forgot perhaps the most important thing - the dates we decided on. Here are the preliminaries:

Fri 1st Feb - Sun 3rd Feb
Nico and Nick
'MAKE/SHIFT'
opening Friday 6-8pm
Saturday 12-8pm
Sunday 12-8pm

Fri 22nd Feb - Sun 24th Feb
Kirstie's exhibition
Plus one or two workshops - bookmaking/quilting/crochet (to be decided)
Perhaps some kind of stitching performance

Fri 29th Feb - Sun 2nd Mar
Alec and Ben's exhibition

Wednesday, 16 January 2008

Mmm, Brakspear

Excellent meeting! I'm pretty excited. Thought it might be a good idea to blog up what we decided and what's going on over the next couple of weeks:

hydeout leaflet
1/3 A4 x long side A3 leaflets, to be folded in 4
One side - a long image with the hydeout logo to show on the front when folded. Nico's asking alec if he can come up with a screen-printed design that'll be easy for us to get printed/copied.
The other side will feature (in each of the 4 sections) an intro to the hydeout space (plus website, email, call for artists etc.), a section on Nico and Nick's exhibition (title, blurb, and image and opening hours), a section Kirstie's exhibition, a section on Alec and Ben's exhibition.
I think Jess is having a shot at content, and I'll look into printing. We'll hopefully have something together by the meeting next Thursday, so be printed the following week for Nico and Nick's opening.

Publicity
Annie and Jess are emailing and ringing people to try and sort out publicity (newspaper listings etc) for Nick and Nico's exhibition.
Nico seems to have flyers, posters etc under control :)
I'll update the myspace and facebook to include this exhibition and will add images once we've got some.

meetings
I think we agreed our next meeting all together would be

Thursday 24th, 6pm at the Brudenell

Me and Jess are meeting Kirstie tomorrow in the basement at 12 to chat about curating and Alec and Ben will be going down there at some point too.

That's all I can remember for now.

Good work team!

First meeting of 2008!

Hello all, happy new year!

As you all know, i finally got that elusive key to the basement door so we can go forward in organising exhibitions and performances at last.

I think we all agree that we need to have a meeting but i need to know ASAP (!!!) when everyone is free for one. Ive posted the proposal from Amy Draper about the Buried Child play but we need to organise it sharpish if its gonna happen.

Please either text/ring me or just reply to this message with available times to meet. im pretty busy at the moment so i can't be arsed with chasing people everyday. For me, Monday afternoon would be perfect, or maybe even Sunday if none of you are doing anything..? let me know my lovers!

Peace and Fucking!

New Proposal from the Facebook page.

Word! this is a new proposal (of a sort) from the facebook page..

Hi! A friend told me about this group and I'm really glad I found it! I'm President of the Leeds University Theatre Group. This semester, among other things, we are putting on 5 plays. One of which is Buried Child by Sam Shepard sometime in the week beginning 18th Feb, normally 3 nights. We're looking for a venue...you can see where this is going! The director said he would love to do it in a basement type room. Is there any way this could be possible in your space? We'd be more than happy to meet up and chat about it. My number is 07912 227173. Amy x

What do we think? Im pretty sure Sam Shepard of whom she talks about suggested this gig at the meeting but i can't quite remember.. I like it. we could do it on a ticket basis, so we have a specific audience and then have them all sit down and watch etc.. obviously..

was going to reply to her but thought id get everyone's view before i do. bye!!!!!!!! x
